Paper brings people together. Whether it's for writing stories, letters, diaries, or expressing one's self through art, paper is about communication and community. To celebrate community and the future of art, we took a look at a few creators, local and international, who utilize paper to create unique things.
Shirley Vuong aka Elsie

Calgary native, Shirly Vuong is an artist gaining traction on Instagram for creating 3D art representative of different hockey teams with paper. She’s made art for various corporate clients including Holt Renfrew and Choice Market (Chai).

Brian Dettmer is an artist reusing old books to create carved art, and has been featured by TED to talk about his craft. Dettmer is quoted talking about his art, “Carve into the surface of the book and I’m not moving or adding anything.
